This year I participated in Tiki Central's Annual Tax-Day Tiki-Mug Trade-off Event. I sent off a mug (I had doubles anyway) as well as other bar goodies (umbrellas, shell necklaces, etc.) and in return I got lots of goodies. Including a Limited Edition Anniversary mug from Disneyland's Enchanted TIki Room. A great addition to our collection.




Not much elee to report. I did go to the 2009 Fringe Festival Preview at Orlando Shakepeare Fest. Some of the shows look really good. Fringe Festival should be good this year.

****If you are religious, you may not want to read my easter rant, I do not mean to offend anyone***

I made the mistake of watching the local news today. I usually get my news online, because the local news channels here in Orlando suck. They tend to focus on fluff peices that are not really news-worthy. But, I wanted to catch a local story (about the UF student who died) so I watched. I happened to catch a piece about Easter, and some big church event at Lake Eola. Now, I do not consider myself athiest, nor do I consider mself christian. I am nothing. I admit that I do not know how the universe came to be. Big bang? seven days? How should I know? Anyone who feels they know anything for certain is wrong. No one can be sure about anything. But back to my point, on this news story they interviewed some church people. One of whom said " I feel sorry for people without religion. WIthout faith in God, there is no hope. Those people are so sad."

Umm. Excuse me? I do not have religion. I do not have faith in God. But I have faith. Faith that humanity can evolve beyond our mistakes. I have hope that the future can be better than the present. I have faith in science. I do not need God to be a good person. I do not need a church to tell me how to help my fellow man. And I do not need the threat of hell to keep in line. I think it is sad that there are people in this world who only help others because the church tells them too. I think it is sad that people have so little faith in their fellow man that they must rely on God for everything.

Okay, I've ranted enough. Just had to get that off my chest. Happy Zombie Jesus Day! Happy Easter!

It may make me a huge dork to say this, but I am so excited that Bebe Neuwirth is playing Morticia Addams in the upcoming Broadway show based on The Addams Family. Between that and Spiderman: The Musical (with music by U2) I just may have to find the time to go to NY next year to live out my geeky fangirl dreams. Hopefully THe Toxic Avenger will be still be off-Broadway then so I can see it too.

Hubby is going out of town this weekend. :( So we decided to have a fun day together (at least until I got called into work.) We went to Leu Gardens so hubby could play with his new camera, then to Kappy's for lunch. We were in the midst of vintage shopping when work called. Oh well. It was a good day anyway.

Saturday night we went to the ORLANDO ROCKS show at House of Blues. We got free tickets (one of the girls in our local is married to a band member). The band we went to see, Gorilla Fight, were good. Not my style of music (more the "screaming into the mic/violent mosh pit" scene). It was entertaining when, during their very first songs, there was a mosh-injury and it took five security guys to carry the injured party through the crowd. I was pleasantly suprised by one of the arlier bands. TRAVERSER, a local progressive rock band, were really good. Talented, and they sampled from HG Wells "War of the Worlds" broadcast. Hubby and I are definately going to try to see them again. There were two other bands we saw as well, but in the mood of "if you can't say anything nice..." I will not mention them further.

Not much else going on. Florida Film Festival starts this weekend. Hopefully we will make it out to a couple films. And we have concert tickets to get, George Clinton is only a couple weeks away.

Happy St Patrick's Day everyone!

Sunday night we had load-out for Legally Blonde. Only six trucks, so didn't take too long. We did miss the shuttle launch because of it, which is a shame since hubby wanted to see it. I'm hoping we have time at some point to drive over and see one from up close. Hubby being from New Hampshire, this is new to him.

Last night we had some friends from tour over for dinner. I figured after living on a bus, they could use a home cooked meal. I made pot roast with mashed potatoes and veggies. Even used the gravy boat for the first time ever. (It was a wedding present)

After our guests left, hubby and I watched Boondock Saints. It's the most Irish movie I have on DVD, so I figured good way to kick off St Patty's Day.

Last week, we went and saw Watchmen on opening night. I'm still not sure how I feel about the movie. I loved the book. I thought the movie had great FX, and I liked the soundtrack (I tend to like anything that uses Leonard Cohen for it's soundtrack). But I'm not sure about the changes. I get why they need to leave stuff out (don't want the movie to be 5 hours long), but some of the changes seemed superficial and unnecessary. All in all, I thought the movie was good.

Guess that's all for now. I've been taking advantage of being at home and using the library alot. The one here has a program where you can request books online and they mail them to your house, so it works great for narcoleptics like me. I'm currently reading the DUNE series. Having seen the movie (both the old one,and the more recent one) its hard to read the book, and not picture certain actors in each part. Now I remember why I always try to read the book first.

That's all for now. I'm gonna go try to wake up hubby so we can put a coat of paint on the walls in the bedroom.
